PU Hike’s Fee Students Protested

Panjab University senate approved a fee hike of 12.5% for different courses in its teaching departments and regional centres from the 2017-18 session amid ruckus in its meeting on Sunday. The new fee structure has been approved in principle with the condition that a separate budget will be allocated for giving scholarship and fee waivers to students of economically weaker sections (EWS) of the society.

But a day after Panjab University (PU) senate gave final approval different student outfits of the varsity came out to protest. While the student parties with political affiliations, including NSUI and SOI, submitted memorandum to the office of vice-chancellor (VC) to oppose the move, SFS marched across the campus and burnt effigy of VC Prof Arun Kumar Grover. The student outfits are demanding rollback of the decision and have threatened to intensify protests otherwise.
