Among the most lawful and safe cities in India, Chandigarh is the one that makes to the top position. Apparently, the city has also been a favorite spot for booze lovers considering the fact that in the past 11 months, 1,00,34,666 bottles of liquor has been sold here. Among this hefty count of liquor bottles, there were 93 lakh bottles from Indian Made Foreign Liquor. If taken on an average, Tri-city civilians consumed over 30,000 liquor bottles each day.
With the influx consumption of whisky, IMFL industry earned Rs. 225 crores. Different brands of whisky have been consumed. Scotch on the other hand is the least consumed category of liquor in the city since only 73,000 bottles have been sold in these 11 months.
What are people saying?
A city liquor vendor said that people in Chandigarh prefer consuming hard drinks. Solely Whisky has made them 70% sales. The selling of wine is merely 2%. We are selling booze regardless of the age of the buyer. Most of the buyer belongs to the age group of 19 to 27.
The president of Chandigarh Wine Merchant Association said that white drinking is also experiencing increased affection in the city. People are swiftly heading towards the consumption of Vodka and liquor consumption is getting stronger in the city with each passing day.
The hotelier also serves booze to the customers without considering their age. However, this law has to be enforced acutely.
How Is Booze Being Sold In Tri-city?
The excise department fixes a minimum price to increase revenue. Since these owners are to pay excise duty, they sell the products at lower prices. Penalty has to be paid if the target is not achieved.
As per the latest news of booze ban on the V1, V2, V3 routes of Chandigarh, total 22 out of 99 vends at Madhya Marg would face closure. Thanks to Supreme Court for the amendments in the order or else, Chandigarh would have experienced critical booze ban.
The UT Administration is also to announce a new excise policy which will help in generating more revenue from liquor in 2017-18. Let’s see what is next to come to satisfy booze cravings of Tri-city civilians.
