Several jobless teachers shaved their heads on Thursday in protest over not getting appointment letter from the state government following Punjab and Haryana high court’s recent orders.
On Wednesday, one of the protestors climbed the mobile tower and stayed there for over two hours before being pulled down by security agencies.
They alleged that in the recent development made by the government, all those teachers who had passed Haryana teachers’ eligibility test in 2013 were not being considered for fresh appointments since the priority is being given to those who cleared the exam in 2011.
Satpal, a protesting teacher, said that high court while vacating a stay over appointments of 9,400 JBT teachers on April 20 asked the government to make the merit list for those who cleared the test in 2011 and 2013. “Till the time state government does not implement high court’s order in its true spirit, we will continue with our protest,” he added.
Meanwhile, heavy security was in place since 200 teachers sat on the dharna in front of education department in Sector 5, Panchkula.
