Ladies Club Celebrated Teej

Ladies Club Sector-7, Panchkula celebrated the festival of Teej with fervour and gaiety as they danced to the the tunes of traditional Punjabi music on Sunday. Teej is a fasting festival for Hindu women. It takes place on the third day of the Shukla Paksha of the Sawaan month of the Hindu calendar, which normally falls between late July to early September.

Ladies recited ‘Bolian’ (verses from folk music) and performed ‘Giddha’ to welcome the ‘Savan’, the rain month, with which the festival is associated. All ladies wearing traditional, colourful dresses broke into dances on the beats of the dhol. However, there was also modern music and thus the recent Punjabi pop songs also added to the celebrations.

“It depicts happiness of the onset of Monsoon in the land of five rivers,” said Richa Pratap one of the member of ladies club who herself performed Gidda. All the members actively participated in the dance and song items and rode the ‘Peengh’ (swing). Member Indu Garg said that the festival reminds one of the happy times in life. She added the festival was traditionally celebrated in Punjab during the month of rain and rued that traditional festivals like these were being forgotten by the younger generation, who spend most of their times on internet and watching movies. Renu Diwan, Lina , Asha, Raj Rani, Pallavi shweta Rekha, Puja, Santosh, Deepti and all other members were present on the occasion.
