Chandigarh woman’s SUV impounded for lockdown breach, tells family it’s stolen

A case of a 26-year-old woman lying to her family about the theft of a Mercedes Benz (GLS), a sports utility vehicle (SUV), has come to light in Chandigarh. Emergency response officers (EO) posted at the Sector 3 police station received a call from the police control room (PCR) about the theft of a SUV worth Rs 80 lakh from Sector 2. When a police team reached the complainant’s house to investigate, they did not find any evidence or witnesses related to the theft. Upon further questioning, a surprising revelation was made.

A young woman of the household confessed that she had taken the SUV for a ride up to Sector 11. Because of lockdown, it was stopped at a checkpoint by the police patrolling staff near the sector 23/24 light point. As the girl did not have a curfew pass, the SUV was impounded.

Fearing her family wrath’s, she lied about it being stolen and let her family file a complaint. The vehicle owner is a businessman.

Investigators later found that the SUV was taken to the traffic lines. A challan has been issued in the name of the woman. No action was taken against the girl and she was let go with a warning.
