Amid the rising number of coronavirus cases and deaths in the country, a piece of good news has been coming from Chandigarh. A coronavirus positive woman gave birth to a healthy baby at sector-16 Government Hospital in Chandigarh on Thursday. Special care was taken by the doctors so that there was no contact between the mother and the baby. Women is a residence of Bapu Dham Colony.
Doctors at the hospital performed a medical feat by successfully delivering a child whose mother had tested positive for Covid-19.
The successful birth of the baby has become a cause of jubilance not only for the family but also for the doctors and the healthcare workers who are striving to save lives in the face of a coronavirus pandemic.
A detailed standard operating procedure was created by the hospital and infectious disease experts and paediatric department were put in action well before the patient was admitted.
“Only a handful of such surgeries have been performed in India, thus, a special obstetrics unit, suitable to the infection control protocols was created. We kept the surgical staff number to minimum and trained them for the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Special Covid corridors were created for safe transportation of the mother and the baby, Senior Consultant and Gynaecology, said.
The surgical unit took additional care to ensure there was no contact between the mother and the child.
Post the successful delivery, a team of neonatologists shifted the baby to a special isolation Intensive Care Unit. The Covid-19 status of the baby will be checked on the third and eighth day of birth. Doctors said the baby is stable and completely healthy.
