70th Independence Day celebration at Chandigarh

Chandigarh:: The Chandigarh Administration celebrated 70th Independence Day at Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh. The Governor of Haryana & Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh hon’ble Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, was the chief guest on the occasion. The Administrator unfurled the National Flag and took salute from the various contingents of Police and NCC Cadets participating in the Independence Day Parade.


While addressing the gathering, Governor remembered the martyrs and paid homage to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for our Independence. Highlighting the key achievements of Chandigarh Administration he congratulated the residents of the City Beautiful for Capitol Complex getting a world heritage status. He also appreciated the hard work and efforts of the officers for achieving success in diverse projects started for the betterment of the City.

Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki gave the commendation certificates to 21 employees of the Chandigarh Administration and general public for rendering outstanding services in the field of Public services, Art and Culture, Social Services and Sports. 24 Police personnel were also conferred Administrator’s Police Medal for their distinguished and meritorious services, whereas 5 Police personnel were also awarded with the President Medal. Cultural programme presented by the students of different schools was another highlight of the event.

The Chandigarh Traffic Police bagged received the overall best turn award in the parade, whereas IRB Ladies and Chandigarh Police got second and third position respectively. In NCC contingents, in the category of Civil Defense, Chandigarh Home Guard received the first prize, Chandigarh Civil Defense second and Chandigarh Fire Services got the third position.

In NCC contingents, Air wing bagged the first position, Girls Army wing came second and Naval wing came third. In another category of Ambulance Brigade Guide and Scouts, and Road Safety, Government Model Senior Secondary School sector 23-A got first position, Government Girls Model Senior Secondary School sector 8-B got second position and Government Model Senior Secondary School-47-D got third position for scouts and guides. In School student’s category, Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School sector-40-C came first whereas DAV Senior Secondary Public School sector-8 C got second position and I.S. Dev Samaj Senior Secondary, sector-21got third position.

Anurag Agarwal, IAS, Home Secretary, Sarvjit Singh, IAS, Finance Secretary, Ajit Balaji Joshi, IAS Deputy Commissioner and other senior officials of Chandigarh Administration and Police along with the residents of the city were present during the function.
