While the government and parents are getting more vigilant about the youngsters resorting to alcohol in Chandigarh, the youth is finding new ways to ‘manage’ their drinks. The young generation has access to a wide variety of alcohol and they are using their choice in full measure to escape the radar of authorities and guardians.
The perfect drink for the day: Beer
Time slots have been allotted for different drinks. Beer is the preferred drink during the day as it does make a person very tipsy. To add to it, beer is a light drink and parents cannot easily identify that their children are drunk. It’s after effects do not last for long and people sober down early. A law student from PU recently said that though it took him some time to develop a taste for the drink, beer is his drink in the day as chances of getting caught are nil. So if it’s a hot day with light rains and some breeze, these students do not shy away from sitting with friends for a round of chilled beer. Microbreweries have mushroomed all over the Tricity, so now it’s fashionable and trendy to enjoy the freshly brewed drink with friends over a football or a cricket match.
Burn the night with your favourite scotch!
Whisky and scotch are comparatively heavier on the system and consumed mostly during the evenings. Students at PGs and even hostels find ways to sneak out for a peg or two of whisky. Girls prefer vodka and tequila and give it back-to-back to guys in drinking. The instance of drinking is steadily on the rise, owing to the growing number of parties. Bartenders say that long island iced tea is the latest rage in town; this drink is an amalgamation of many liquors and the hangover could be long lasting. It does not stink nor has a bitter taste, rather gives an incredible high. Whisky and wine are freely consumed by these youngsters who have no inhibitions in savouring their favourite liquors as a casual means to quench their thirst!
