A couple, owners of Shalimar Mall, awarded two-and-a-half-year jail term for non-compliance of the UT Consumer Commission’s order after they expressed their inability to pay the money of investors.
The commission also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on RK Aggarwal and his wife Kamlesh Aggarwal. The convicts are already languishing in Burail Jail as earlier the commission had awarded them three-year jail. The duo was today presented before the commission in connection with an execution petition filed against them.
Complainant Tanvir Kaur was to be paid over Rs 51.64 lakh along with 12 per cent interest per annum by the two. However, despite the commission’s direction, they failed to pay. They were arrested by the Panchkula police on November 2, 2016, in the Rs 70-crore mall fraud case. Last year, Vimal Gupta and 22 others had got a cheating case registered against them. Over 100 complainants had alleged that they were promised shops in the mall in Sector 5 but despite payment, they were not given the possession of the shops.
