Army truck hits bike, one died other critical

Panchkula: A 25-year-old youth was killed and while another one is in a critical condition at the PGI after an Army truck hit their motorcycle on the road dividing the Command Hospital and Sector 6 around 11.30 am today. They were on their way to Mani Majra from Ramgarh when the mishap took place.

The bike was hit from the rear side. Vikram, who was riding the bike, was tossed into the air and landed on the front portion of the truck while Umesh, who was riding pillion, sustained serious injuries. Vikram was taken to the Command Hospital where he succumbed to his head injuries. According to eye witnesses, none of them was wearing a helmet.

Vikram had a marketing job and is survived by his wife and an 18-month-old son. His colleague Umesh is of the same age group. According to Dildar Singh, investigating officer of the case, “The victim was taken to the Command Hospital by Army men. An accident case has been registered against the truck driver.” Family members of Vikram, however, have alleged that the Army man driving the truck fled from the spot and the deceased was taken to the hospital by an auto-rikshaw driver.
