Parking rates doubled to Rs 10 per entry for car

Parking rates across all 25 lots in the city have been doubled from Rs 5 per entry for cars to Rs 10 per entry (an entry is for four hours). For two-wheelers, the new rates are Rs 5 per entry from Rs 2 per entry. The new rates were finalised at the monthly House meeting of the municipal corporation on Tuesday and will be implemented three months after the contracts for the lots are awarded.
As of today, all lots are without contractors and the MC is expected to start the process by March with the awarding of the lots expected to be completed by April. So, if this happens, the new rates will be applicable from July. This is the first time the rates will be increased since paid parking was introduced in the city in 2001.
RECHARGEABLE ENTRY CARDS TO BE ISSUED
Moving forward on its agenda of smart parking, the MC will issue smart rechargeable entry cards for parking that will be available at e-sampark Centres. The smart parking also entails the use of automatic boom barriers. A mobile App will also be launched to provide the status of parking availability in real time.
NINE-HOUR OFFICE PARKING TO COST Rs 40
Under the new rates, parking from 9am to 6pm in the city will cost Rs 40. From 9am to 1pm, the charges will be Rs 10. Then, with charges set at Rs10 for the next two hours each, the parking bill at 6pm will come out to be Rs 40. For two-wheelers, the daily charges for the nine hours will be Rs 20.
There is the provision of monthly passes that will be Rs 700 a month at a single parking lot. The monthly passes for two-wheelers will be Rs 250. For MC employees, there will be a concession on monthly passes.
