Panchkula MLA demanded Mayor resignation

Panchkula MLA Gian Chand Gupta has demanded resignation from Mayor Upinder Kaur Ahluwalia over the city’s poor performance in the Swachh Survekshan-2017. Panchkula was ranked 211 out of 434 cities, far behind Chandigarh and Mohali, who were ranked 11 and 121, respectively. The city stands fourth in Haryana, behind Karnal (65), Faridabad (88) and Gurugram (112).

Gupta said the Mayor was stalling all development works and was just writing letters. He said in the past eight months, she had written 3,000 letters against one official. He said it would have been better, had the Mayor worked for the city. Gupta has also written to the Chief Administrator of HUDA and the Municipal Commissioner to act against increasing encroachments in the city.

He stated in the letter that encroachments were taking place in connivance with employees of the MC and HUDA. At the Mansa Devi Complex, Bhainsa Tibba, Sectors 7 to 11 and 14, encroachments are rising at an alarming rate, says the letter.
