Tha Haryana Tourism in collaboration with Horticulture Department organising 26th “Mango Mela” at Yadvindra Garden, Pinjore on 8th and 9th July, 2017.
Mango Mela is a treat for the lovers of MANGO the king of fruits. Hundreds of varieties of mangoes from as far as Maharasthra, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and also from Haryana, Himachal and Punjab arrive here, delighting everyone with their hybrid shapes and quality. A splash of festivities and colours of cultural extravaganza make this event far more popular. The Mango Mela is celebrated every year at the historical Mughal Gardens since 1992.
Why Mango Mela?
The main objective of the two-day Mango Mela is to encourage farmers to adopt the latest technology to increase their mango production and quality, so that they may get maximum return of their produce from their limited holdings by tapping the domestic as well as international market. The Mango Mela also provides a forum to the mango growers to sell their mangoes and mango products.
India at the top
India is one of the largest mango producers in the world, which is contributing about 50 % share of the world produce. Mango is grown in an area of about 2.3 millions hectare and production is approx. 15.25 million tons (2012) annually. In Haryana, mango occupies a prominent position and it is grown on 25 % of the total area under fruit cultivation.
Attractions of Mango Mela
• Competition of commercial varieties
Prominent commercial mango varieties that will compete at the Mela include Dusheri, Langra, Chousa, Malda, Malika, Amrapali, Ratol and Ramkela (a pickle variety). The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes are distributed with shields, certificates and cash prizes.
• Competition of mango products In this segment products like squash, juice, ‘chutney’, ‘murabba’, ‘aam papad’, pickle, jam pulp, etc are included. Individual winners are given cash prize, shield and certificates and institute/universities/departments are given shield and certificates.
• Open to all competition In this category, mangoes are displayed and people are given prizes with title of Hind Kesri, Aam Kesri and Haryana Kesri and awarded certificates and cash prizes. Generally, prizes of Hind Kesri and Aam Kesri are awarded to people from other parts of the country. Haryana Kesri is awarded to mango growers of Haryana.
Cultural Programmes
On 9th July, 2017 (Sunday) at 6:30 p.m. – Live Performance by Gajender Phogat, Famous Haryanvi Pop & Folk Singer
Day Performers and troupes of cultural artistes sponsored by North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala (Ministry of Culture, Government of India) will belt out varied folk dance forms-Ghoomer & Phag (Haryana), Bhangra & Gidha (Punjab), Rouf (Jammu & Kashmir) & Been Sapera. Food Court
A multi-cuisine Food Court will serve mouth-watering cuisines including the robust flavours from Punjab, subtle aromas of the South and oriental flavours of Chinese along with Indian street food.
Craft Bazaar
The Craft Bazaar is another added attraction of the Mela . At the Crafts Bazar, there will be display and sale of handlooms and handicrafts by talented craftspersons/weavers from Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan etc.
The Mango Mela provides an excellent opportunity to the tourists and visitors to see and taste good quality mangoes and be a part of varied activities and events organised during the Mela .
