Panchkula: A local court has sent RK Aggarwal, the managing director of Shalimar Mall, and his wife Kamlesh Aggarwal to five-day police remand in a cheating case.
The Panchkula police, under a special investigation team (SIT) headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Mukesh Malhotra, had arrested the accused last night and produced them in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate here today.
The couple was arrested from Naraingarh at around 9 pm on Monday following a tip-off. The police set up a special naka and nabbed the accused, who were later brought to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) at the Sector 20 police station.
SIT investigating officer Sukhwinder said, “We are questioning them where the money and original records are.” He added that the MD was a very ‘clever’ man.
However, defence counsel Arun Kumar said his clients were being harassed by the complainants. “The police had earlier closed the case saying that it was a civil matter. Possession letters were given to 120 people in 2008 but they filed a complaint again to harass my clients.”
Earlier on October 14, the EOW had arrested Akshay Garg, brother of the main accused RK Aggarwal, manager Parveen Kumar and wife Kavita after they had joined investigation.
In November last year, the UT police had booked Aggarwal along with others for duping 24 persons of Rs 10 crore on the pretext of selling showrooms at Shalimar Mega Mall in Sector 5, Panchkula. A case was registered under Sections 420 and 120B of the IPC at the Sector 3 police station.
In October last year, the UT Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum had issued bailable warrants against the MD of Shalimar Estates with directions to the SSP to constitute a team of police officials to attach the house of the accused.
