Panchkula parks to get open gyms soon

If all goes according to the plan, Panchkula’s public parks will have open gymnasiums and that too free for all. The district administration’s initiative will first build such parks in four villages of the district. After that, the already existing parks in the city will get open gymnasiums.

For the first phase, Burj Kotiyan, Bhanvli, Manak Tabra and Ganeshpur Goriya villages in the district have been selected. These villages will get a new park with an open gymnasium. The administration will provide equipment for the gyms. Once the approval is received, the budget and equipment to be procured for the project will be decided.

An initiative of Deputy Commissioner Gauri Parasher Joshi, it is yet to get an approval from the government. “The idea is to make sophisticated gym equipment accessible to all residents, irrespective of their age, gender or socio-economic background. Hence, the services will free for all,” the Dc said.

The DC further said, “In the second stage, the parks that are in good condition in the city will be selected and open gyms will be created there. Such parks already exist in other districts of Haryana such as Panipat, Jind and Faridabad.”

Last year, the Chandigarh Administration had started an open air gymnasium in the Sector 16 park and following its success, such gyms came up in six other city parks. The Panchkula administration will be hoping for a positive response in the district for the same.
